Beatty’s Cabin to Iron Gate Loop

From Jack’s Creek: 17.5 miles RT, 3094 ft gain, max elevation 10,230 ft.

This is a fantastic long loop, especially in late fall when there’s too much snow up high. I did it in November and it was perfect. Beatty’s Cabin is a historic cabin used by George Beatty, an old-time prospector. It is maintained by the forest service. There are beautiful views of the Pecos River canyon as you get closer to the headwaters. The loop to Hamilton Mountain allows for expansive views. You can either return to camp from Iron gate campground or finish the loop to Jack’s Creek. There are cows at the top of Jack’s creek.
