From Iron Gate Campground: 11 miles RT, 1400 ft gain, max elevation 10,400. 

I usually ride my bike to Iron Gate campground and hide it in the trees. If you have a high clearance vehicle you can drive. Or make this run from camp to add an additional runnable 8 miles. Hamilton Mesa has beautiful wildflowers in July and views year-round. A few years ago, a forest fire threatened to burn the whole wilderness down, so the trail was turned into fire barrier, but it is recovering. You will see cows.
